Mills Auto Parts has been a family-owned business since 1982, working out of the same yard at 4200 Adams Center Rd, the corner parcel also carried on some records as 4200 S Maplecrest Rd. Four decades in, the system hasn't changed much: a used engine or part comes in, gets wrapped in plastic to keep the weather and the dust off it, and goes up on a steel rack under a hand-painted bin number, aisle, rack and shelf, so nothing in the Quonset is just sitting there unaccounted for.

That's what makes a phone call work. Tell the counter the year, make and model of the vehicle, and the part you're after, and they can tell you what bin it's filed in before you've even hung up. For body panels, the paint code does the same job for color that the bin number does for location, one more thing checked before the part leaves the building instead of after it's already on the car.
